The Maharishi effect is really several studies completed with thousands of individuals that had a regular yoga and/or meditation practice and the effect it had in the cities in which these practitioners lived. Over the course of five years in one particular city that these meditators were in, the crime rate went down over 20% for no other reason other than just that there were high levels of meditation/yoga.
